About this tour

Beach diving in Fernando de Noronha is one of the most accessible ways to explore the archipelago's underwater world, especially for those who have never dived before or do not have certification.

Praia do Porto was chosen as the setting for this experience because it hosts one of the island's greatest concentrations of marine life, with crystal-clear waters that allow excellent visibility even in shallow dives.

The activity begins right on the beach, with a theoretical class taught by the instructors. At this point, you learn basic safety procedures, underwater signal communication, and how to properly use diving equipment.

After the theoretical portion, the group enters the water for an adaptation phase in shallow depth. This is the moment to get used to breathing through the regulator, test ear equalization, and gain confidence before actually diving.

When everyone is comfortable, the actual dive begins. The descent is gradual and reaches a maximum depth of 9 meters. The time underwater is approximately 30 minutes — enough to observe colorful fish, sea turtles, rays, and an impressive variety of corals and rock formations.

The highlight of the dive is the visit to Naufrágio do Porto, a boat that rests on the seabed about 300 meters from the beach. The structure has become an artificial reef, attracting schools of fish and serving as shelter for various marine species.

The entire route is closely accompanied by experienced instructors, ensuring safety and guidance throughout the experience.

How it works

The dive is conducted Monday through Saturday, at four different times: 8am to 9am, 9:30am to 10:30am, 12:30pm to 1:30pm, and 2:30pm to 3:30pm. The total duration of the activity is approximately 1 hour, with about 30 minutes of underwater time.

The experience follows these stages:

1. **Theoretical class on the beach**: Instructor explains safety procedures, equipment use, and underwater signal communication.

2. **Shallow water adaptation**: Before descending, you test the equipment, practice breathing through the regulator, and familiarize yourself with the sensations of diving.

3. **Gradual descent**: The instructor leads the group to a maximum depth of 9 meters, always attentive to each participant's comfort.

4. **Underwater exploration**: For approximately 30 minutes, you observe marine life and visit Naufrágio do Porto, which is 300 meters from the beach.

5. **Return to the surface**: Controlled ascent following safety procedures.

The entire dive is accompanied by qualified instructors. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the activity.

What you may see

Praia do Porto hosts one of the highest concentrations of marine life in Fernando de Noronha. During the dive, you may spot:

- **Sea turtles**: frequent in the region, often feeding or resting on the bottom
- **Colorful tropical fish**: various species native to the archipelago
- **Rays**: gliding gracefully across the sandy bottom
- **Corals and rock formations**: with their varied colors and shapes
- **Naufrágio do Porto**: the sunken boat structure transformed into an artificial reef, with schools of fish circling around
- **Small crustaceans and mollusks**: hidden among rocks and corals

Visibility is usually excellent, allowing you to appreciate all this biodiversity even at shallow depths.

Recommended for

Ideal for those who want to try diving for the first time, even without any previous experience. Recommended for children from 9 years old (always accompanied by a responsible adult), families, couples, and groups of friends who want to discover Noronha's underwater world in a safe and guided way. Also perfect for those who have limited time on the island and want a quick but complete dive, or for those who prefer activities that depart directly from the beach without the need for a boat.

Not recommended for

Not recommended for those with extreme fear of water or severe claustrophobia. People with the following conditions should consult the operator before booking: pregnancy, recent surgery (last 45 days), type 1 diabetes, ventricular foramen, spontaneous pneumothorax, tympanic perforation, respiratory problems in crisis state (asthma, sinusitis, nasal congestion, otitis), history of dizziness, fainting, seizures or epilepsy. Those who had COVID-19 in the last month with hospitalization will need to present a medical certificate. Important: diving is not permitted on the same day you will fly.

Before booking

**Important restriction**: Diving is not permitted on the same day you will fly. Plan your schedule considering this limitation.

**Minimum age**: 9 years old. Children pay the same adult price and must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the activity.

**Medical conditions**: If you fall into any of the situations below, contact the operator before purchasing the tour: pregnancy; recent surgery (last 45 days); type 1 diabetes; ventricular foramen; spontaneous pneumothorax; tympanic perforation; respiratory problems in crisis (asthma, sinusitis, nasal congestion, otitis); history of dizziness, fainting, seizures or epilepsy; COVID-19 hospitalization in the last month (medical certificate will be required).

**Available times**: Conducted Monday through Saturday, at four times: 8am to 9am, 9:30am to 10:30am, 12:30pm to 1:30pm, and 2:30pm to 3:30pm.

**Companion**: There is an option for an adult to go only as a companion (without diving), upon payment of a fee. Consult the operator for pricing.

Tips

- **Do not fly on the same day**: This is the most important rule of diving. Plan to do this activity during the first days of your trip to Noronha, never on your departure day.

- **Use biodegradable sunscreen**: Apply before leaving the hotel, as Praia do Porto is in an environmental preservation area.

- **Arrive early**: This allows you to relax, meet the instructors, and ask questions before the theoretical class.

- **Don't rush the adaptation**: The shallow water adaptation phase is fundamental. Go at your own pace and only descend when you feel comfortable.

- **Communicate any discomfort**: Use the signals taught by the instructors to communicate if something is not right during the dive.

- **Equalize your ears frequently**: Don't wait to feel discomfort to equalize. Do this constantly during descent.

- **Breathe normally**: Beginners tend to hold their breath or breathe too quickly. Try to maintain calm, steady breathing.

- **Avoid heavy foods beforehand**: Have a light meal before the activity to avoid feeling unwell.

- **Medical conditions**: If you have any of the listed conditions, consult the operator in advance, even if you think there's no problem.
